On-board charger

Electric vehicles require on-board chargers (OBC) to charge their large-capacity batteries. To increase the energy density, the volume and devices of OBCs are being miniaturized and developed for bi-directional charging and discharging, which supports the reverse output of on-board batteries to the electrical grid or other vehicles through V2X (V2L, V2G, V2V) communication. In terms of the circuit topology design of OBCs, in addition to the VIENNA structure, another way of using the Totem pole circuit as the main front-end PFC section has been adopted in the market, which is realized by the latest third-generation compounds such as silicon carbide (SiC) and gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductors. The rear-end DC-DC conversion section includes both isolated (such as LLC design) and non-isolated designs. Based on different customer design and cost considerations, Actron Technology can provide various types of discrete components such as silicon-based (silicon) IGBT and silicon carbide (SiC) MOSFETs, diodes, etc., with standardized designs that comply with automotive regulations and production requirements, thus reducing import and verification time.
